30th Annual Golf Tournament Kicks off Annual Giving
On Monday, October 17, 44 golfers teed it up for Pine Point’s 30th Annual Golf Tournament to support Pine Point School at Stonington Country Club. Or as some astute Pine Point historian recently pointed out, perhaps it should have been our 32nd Tournament!!
Gathering to play golf and support Pine Point began with a June 1990 golf outing organized in honor of Richard Mitchell, who had just retired as Head of School. The Dick Mitchell Classic honored Mr. Mitchell and his many years of service to Pine Point. This photo shows Dick driving the cart, heading out with his friend Terry Hildebrand. Dick and his wife Linda Mitchell made a point to play in the tournament whenever they were in the area. In addition to honoring Mr. Mitchell, the event was intended to bring members of the School community together to enjoy a round of golf, have some good-natured competition, and raise funds for the School. More than 30 years have passed, but the purpose of this event remains the same: gather together, have a good time, and raise funds for the School.
Thank you to all who played. It was a little wet early, and a little wet late, but that didn’t dampen our spirits as golfers took part in this annual event to support Pine Point School. This year, we raised just under $35,000, which all goes directly to support Pine Point, helping us maintain the amazing experiences our students enjoy every day. Your support is vital to keeping our program strong – thank you!
Congratulations to our winning teams for our 30th Annual Golf Tournament:
Low round for men: Andy Tomlinson, Mike LaChapelle, Kevin Brown, and Doug Plassche
Low round for the women: Debbie Wright, Jenny Wronowski, Lara Dolphin, and Missy Holland
And congratulations to our individual prize winners:
Closet to the pin: Doug Plassche and Tommy Kearney
Longest drives: Missy Holland and Dylan Williams
Straightest drive (perhaps what we should all aspire to!): Steve Strader
This event is always a great way for us to kick off our annual giving campaign, so thank you again to our lead sponsors, tee sponsors, players, and volunteers for supporting Pine Point. We hope to see you all again next year!
